Topman @ Oxford Circus

Guess what happened yesterday morning.
I woke up with a hangover! It must have been a lot to do with that delicious Korean cocktail I enjoyed at Kimchee. The drink was so smooth and tasty. Well, I won’t touch it next time though.

Another creature of habit in my household, apart from Mr.B, my hubbie was so keen to have our customary breakfast at Shepherdess Cafe and nudging me to get ready like a diligent sheep dog, so I pulled myself together rather gingerly, nursing my heavy head. The thought of egg & sausage gave me a nausea, therefore, the only thing I fancied at the cafe was peanut butter with honey on brown toasts…

Image

Sweet gooey peanut butter glistening with golden honey on crispy toasts…
I started eating it tentatively at the beginning but towards the end, I was chomping quite eagerly.
With a mug of steaming strong tea, nothing was better to remedy the pressure around my temple.

By the way, I did a bit of retail therapy before heading to Kimchee for dinner last Friday.
I was at Topman, Oxford Circus, rummaging through their accessories department.
There were so many cute & cool stuff I would never find in women’s department! I was blown away.
A lapel pin, bow ties, collar tips, bracelets, pairs of braces, cute cuffs…

Image

So, these guys in the pic came home with me.
However, the braces fell apart when I tried them the first time.
Oh well, the quality of the make is still a lot to be desired… *sigh*

Korean dinner @ Kimchee, High Holborn

Oh my, Oh my, I was so stuffed last night.
We had  a “no holding back” Korean feast at Kimchee, High Holborn.
I love Korean food. They are one of my most favourite foods of all time.
So, when this restaurant was suggested as last night’s venue, I jumped on board without any hesitation.

Very stylish, don’t you find? Mmmm… I can hardly wait!

Image

Our reservation was for 7pm.
Already, the tables were brimming with the diners who were busy tacking in delicious looking dishes…

Image

By the reception, we could see the chef at work with the BBQ grill.
Oh, please, please show us our table quickly! My stomach is rumbling…

Image

After about 5 minutes of standing around at the reception, we were led to our table.
The theme of the interior decor was very zen. Dark and angular. Especially the chairs, they were like church pews. Heavy and sturdy…

Image

The table was laid out beautifully…

Image

I ordered a korean cocktail called Berry Berry Nice.
The base of the cocktail was Korean booze, Makgeolli. It was mixed with blueberry liqueur, shaken with crushed ice and finished with blue berry.
Sweet & smooth…

Image

My lovely fellow diners.
Isabel & Fei…

Image

And me & Maria.
It is super fun to hang around with them…

Image

The dishes arrived in rapid succession. And our table was almost full to the edges!
We ordered Modum Namul (assorted vegetables – bean sprout, spinatch, radish & cucumber – seasoned with sesame oil & garlic), Pa Jeon (traditional Korean pancake with spring onion & mixed seafood served with a soy & chives sauce), Bulgalbi (short beef rib marinated in a fruity sauce with onions & garlic), Bulgogi (thinly sliced beef marinated in a fruity sauce with onions & garlic), Pork Belly (famous korean dish of grilled sliced pork belly) and Kimchee Jjigae (a spicy hot pot of kimchee beef & tofu)…

Image

And on top of them, we had two portions of Raw Beef Dolsot Bibimbap (served in a piping hot earthware pot, consisting of raw beef, rice, cooked vegetables, raw egg & red chilli paste which is then mixed together while still sizzling with the heat from the pot).
Apology for the quality of the shot. It was too steamy…

Image

Give a good stir, Fei!
She was given an important task of mixing the pot…

Image

We were truly pigging out.
Even we were almost bursting, it didn’t stop us from ordering an ice cream each for dessert, Green Tea, Almond, Black Sesame & Red Bean.
When it came to pay the bill, it was only £23 each. So reasonable!
I must come back with my hubbie again very soon…

Hetty Rose @ DiGardo, Notting Hill

Wow, the Notting Hill Carnival is coming this weekend!
It means we have no more bank holiday left until Christmas. How devastating. *sob*
Summer is over officially. Oh, how sad. Especially, we did not have a decent one. Actually, it was a sh*tty summer. Only a handful of days which was hot enough for us to wear shorts & flip-flops. I bought virtually no summer fashion items for this summer. It was cr*p.

Anyway, I & Mr.B were on our way to Portbello in order to attend the event at my friend’s boutique…

Image

In the Evening Standard I picked up at Moorgate, I found the article about the peculiar looking structure off Brick Lane. So. it was a climbing wall? A lot of urban climber must be very excited.
Rock climbing is one of adrenalin sports I am NOT tempted to try. You see, I have a bit of phobia of heights. I would be definitely very uncomfortable up there. And my nose always overreact to talcum powder. It would start me with a fit of sneeze…

She is Hetty Rose, a focus of the event.
Mr.B took an instant liking of her. Cuddling up to her on the chair, her black jeans were left with lots of Mr.B’s hair…

Image

Hetty makes beautiful handmade shoes for women.
She uses vintage Japanese kimono silk as her main material.

Image

Her shoes are so original!
Elegant yet practical. Comparing with the shoes designed by male designers, her creation is more sympathetic to real women’s need. Being chic doesn’t have to be a health hazard, dont’ you agree?

Image

All of her shoes are lovingly handmade by Hetty herself in her South London atelier.
It is impossible to find any shoes with this much originality and details in high street shops.

Image

Image

Mr.B decided to retreat in the carrier.
He had enough of the ladies trying the shoes over and over…

Image

Oh well, you don’t need any footwear, do you?
Your life is definitely less complicated…

Test driving @ Waitrose, Barbican

The weather today was an ideal for cycling, not too hot or windy.
So I hopped on to my Brommie and off I went towards the City.
The lunchtime in the City was like an agitated beehive. The people were scurrying from all directions!

Anyway, after running errands at Moorgate, I swung by my local Waitrose at Barbican…

Image

Maneuvering around the aisles with 4 Easy Wheels was much easier than with just 2, that was for sure.
I also found that it was easier to push the bike like a wheelbarrow, rather than to tag it along.
Still, the wheels didn’t swivel like shopping carts’, so would need more getting used to.
All in all, I was happy to invest another £150 to get them installed.

After shopping, I cycled to Costa on Old Street to have a quick-lunch with my hubbie.
When my hubbie asked me what day it was, I answered ‘Is it Wednesday?’
‘Really? I lost the track of time’.Then I checked my iPhone and found today was Thursday?!
How did I get muddled up? What happened to my memory???

I munched on a toasted farafel wrap, thinking what did I do on tuesday…

Brompton returns

I let go of my Brommie for overnight. The bike was left in the workshop at Cycle Surgery, Spitalfields.
It was a kind of weird to see a vacant spot near the front door where my Brompton was normally stationed.

After parting from my bike, I had a little stroll to Brick Lane.
Off Corbet Place, I found a strange structure…

Image

What is this for? Looks very elaborate, doesn’t it?
Oh well, I shall find out when I visit there again on Sunday with Fei & Letizia…

On my way home from Spitalfields, I came across another curious sight off Pitfield Street.
Aske Garden had a makeover and looked amazing!

Image

Is Nike doing any event?
Apparently, they were hosting 3 on 3 pick up basketball game last night.
I pondered if I wanted to go and see it. In the end, I decided against it though.

Then at home, I carried on knitting while watching The Best of Men on BBC iPlayer.

Image

I was rather restless all day today. Couldn’t wait to be reunited with my Brommie!
Then around 5pm, I scurried to Spitalfields, with a cycle helmet dangling from my Mulberry Alexa satchel.
Oh my Brommie, you look sound! Do you see the change?
A new rear rack and two more Easy Wheels are installed! It will make my bike slightly heavier. However, rolling it around when it is folded will be much easier. The thought of being able to swivel the bike around the aisles of supermarket rather than having to drag it makes me soooo happpppppyyyy!…

Image

Let’s go home, shall we?
Oh, how much I love cycling in this city…

Image

Instead of going home straight, I cycled to Clerkenwell.
I invited my hubbie to join me at Starbuck on Goswell Road for a well-earned latte break…

Image

And shared a slice of granola bar. My hubbie’s choice, of course.
He likes anything ‘oaty’…

Image

I prefer cakes with less fibre & cinnamon, I must say…
