The story of Vernon and Irene castle

Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers on BBC2!
Isn’t it a perfect antidote to combat a gloomy & grey Monday morning?
Watching a huge grin on Mr.Astaire’s face as he & Miss.Rogers twirling around the ballroom with their mesmerizing steps, it really injected an extra bounce in my step while I was dealing with  my housekeeping chores…

By the way, “Maggie”, the manager played by Edna May Oliver, very much reminded me insuppressaible Diana Vreeland…

When Maggie first introduced Vernon & Irene to the audience of Cafe De Paris, she was wearing a dress which took my breath away. Those fur adorned shoulders! It reminded me a cossack princess. Also, the bodice was richly ornate with needle works and beads. And finished off with a hair do to go with it,  she looked like Elizabeth I! !The film was in B&W so I had no idea what colours they were. Still, I can imagine it must have been dark & rich hues, like burgundy or royal blue.
It was so Alexandar Mcqueen. Mmmm… Divine…

Andrew Edmunds @ Lexington Street, Soho

Belated happy new year greeting to everyone!
I’ve almost recovered from the cold which I contracted post Xmas.
Apart from some stuffed nose and occasional coughs, I feel as fine as I can be. A regime of four times a day hand stand and 1 hour of peddling on my stationary bike has commenced again. And I’ve added 2 glasses of protein shake to my daily diet.
My new year resolution is “getting fitter inside & outside”. Mmmmmmm… I really look forward to it.

Anyway, we met up with our lovely friends, Letizia & Peter at Andrew Edmunds on Lexington Street for lunch today…

When we got there, they were already there, sipping wine & waiting for us…

Image

Such a cosy place!
Very intimate and homely. I loved it…

Image

I fancied steak. So be it…

Image

I asked them about my steak to be cooked as medium rare but found mine a tad on over done side. However, the rib eye with pepper cone sauce was very palatable. It was one of the best steaks I had in my recent memory. The accompanying sweet potato and broccoli were cooked to perfection as well.

After polishing off the plates with another bottle of red wine, we decided to pay an homage to our all time favourite, Maison Bertaux

The tables were brimming with happy crowd who were enjoying their late afternoon tea & cake.
Luckily, we managed to grab the table which was just vacated.
So, we settled down comfortably in the corner and resumed our chit-chat…

Image

I had a slice of Saint-Honore.

Hubbie seemed to like it but it was a miss for me. I found it a bit too bland. I prefer Laduree’s.
Oh well, never mind.
After finishing our dessert with a gigantic pot of tea, it was time for us to head home.
We strolled through Soho towards Oxford Street.
However, Hubbie and Peter, both of them were over 6’4″ tall, obviously had longer strides than us, Letizia & me. Consequently, we were left far behind while they were deep in conversation, not paying any attention where we were!
Oh well, that’s husbands for you…

S/S 2013

I am pacing up and down, eyeing my ongoing work on the mannequin.
My expression might be politically incorrect but it really feels like facing a bull in bullfighting ring.
I haven’t got much time to screw it up.
So, the way I am grappling it by its horn is rather tentative…

Image

The Runaways are on today’s menu while I am knitting away…

Image

Yea, I do remember them.
As a child, I thought they were a bit scary.  Cherie the lead singer, she was the first to sport a racy underwear on stage, wasn’t she? Even before Madonna…

Today’s weather was rather miserable as it drizzled incessantly.
Nevertheless, Hubbie and I trekked to WH Smith in Liverpool Street Station this lunchtime because we wanted to get hold of a copy of Creative Review in which Hubbie contribute monthly columns.

Together with Creative Reviews, I also bought French Vogue featuring S/S 2013.

Image

How do I find it?
Mmmm… Looks like a continuation of the previous season to me. Also, it’s more muted as well. I don’t find it massively exciting, I’m afraid.

My personal style next season will be definitely less black and more colour.
Even though monochrome seems to be in vogue, I just don’t fancy it for some reason.
The only collection I kind of like is by Isabel Marant…

Image

I just want anything light and airy. No goth or harlequin stuff please.
Even if it is endorsed by SB or MJ, it’s really not for me…

P.S. About my Hubbie’s column in Creative Review, it’s called “Art Directing the Idea“. Please take a peep if you fancy (^-^)
