Frankie the Giant Tortoise

Have you ever come across with anyone who carries her pet turtle in her bag? That was exactly what happened when Hubbie and I visited Maltby Street Market! As I mention in my previous post, London was finally blessed with a warm weather and we decided to make the best out of it by going out with Mr.B.

At first, we had brunch at Ozone…

I had crab cake with poached egg. It was good even though I found the eggs a little too overdone. After polishing off the plate, we pondered if we should have dessert at here or elsewhere. ‘Why don’t we have tea and cake at Maltby Street Market?’

Some vendors had started packing away their stalls when we arrived at the market. The air was still thick with the smells of food from their spits and grills…

We spotted a few empty chairs at St.John and asked a couple who were sitting at one end of the table if the chairs were occupied. They replied that they weren’t so we installed ourselves in them and ordered latte and cakes…

Hubbie’s jam doughnut and my Bakewell tart! They were so moreish and so properly done – St.John’s signature style.

‘Oh, hello you!’ The couple spotted Mr.B sticking his head out, studying the surrounding. ‘Do you wanna see what we have in our bag?’ And they showed us what was inside…

A baby turtle and her furry hotwater bottle!!

She is Giant tortoise and her name is Frankie…

She seemed to be very inquisitive and wanted to nibble my finger. The pace of her walk was surprisingly quick…

She would live up to 50 years and be as large as the table we were sitting at!!

Mr.B with Lady Frankie…

Despite both of them having a commonality in their mode of travelling, they weren’t that interested in each other. Mr.B twitched his nose and Lady Frankie stared at him for a few seconds before looking away…

After bidding a farewell to the couple and the tortoise, we headed home. Petals from the cherry blossoms were falling like delicate snowflakes…

From Tower Bridge Road, we hopped on a bus towards Shoreditch…

A scene from Tower Bridge.

We alighted the bus at Shoreditch High Street and headed to the bookshop on Rivington Street…

It was a full on Saturday and we all enjoyed every minute of it…

Ozone Coffee Roasters @ Leonard St EC2

I am standing in the queue at my local post office with a few parcels which are to be returned to the stores so I can claim refunds. For some unknown reason, all the self-service machines are out of order and therefore I have to join a looooooong line trailing from the counters. At least, I am grabbing this detour so I can update my otherwise sluggish blog…

Around Old Street tube station, there is another notable coffee joint, named Ozone Coffee Roaster. They not only offer carefully brewed cups but also an extensive breakfast & lunch menu which has proved to be hugely popular amongst the City workers as well as the tech crowds around the vicinity…

My flat white. I must say it was not the best one I tasted from them. A faint but noticeable bitterness was left on my tongue as the liquid trickled down my throat. Roasting and brewing a perfect cup of coffee is quite an art, isn’t it?…

For late lunch, I had Eggs Benedict with salmon…

The poached eggs and rashers of smoked salmon were laid on top of bubble & squeak cakes instead of usual English muffins.

My friend went for the same except changing the filling to Portobello mushroom & spinach…

As the knife was thrusted into the bulging egg yolk, a delicious golden ooze seeped out and slowly disappeared into the warm starchy bed. It tasted absolutely divine…

My friend’s brand new Dr.Martens…

He bought a pair of 1461…

Next to us, an incredibly well-behaved Airdale terrier was lying down…

He hugged the floor quietly as his owner went through his lunch…

By the way, while England’s World Cup dream is prematurely over and done with, the Wimbledon has kicked off. Thank god! Come on Andy! Show us what you’ve got!!
